A door draft stopper is the right part when you cannot drill the door. Buy one whose published size matches your door width, and check your gap is at least half an inch so the stopper is not dragging. Twin-tube designs seal both faces and move with the door; single fillers clear a tighter gap.
This category has a specific problem: almost nobody publishes a gap range. Sellers publish a door width, which tells you whether the stopper will span the door but nothing about whether it will fit under it. The one exception is called out in the table below and it is the reason that product leads.
Twin or single: the decision in one paragraph
A twin stopper is two tubes joined by a thin membrane. You slide the membrane under the door, and a tube sits against each face, so it seals whichever way the pressure is going and it travels with the door when it opens. A single filler sits on one side only. The twin seals better; the single needs less clearance. If your gap is under about three quarters of an inch, or the door drags on carpet, go single.
Match the part to your gap
Measure at the widest point. Then read across. If your measurement sits on a boundary, take the larger band — a seal that is slightly too big compresses, and one that is too small does nothing at all.

What we would skip, and why
Nobody in this category ever declines to recommend something. That is what makes universal praise worth ignoring. Here is what we would not buy.
Any draft stopper sold on a noise-reduction percentage
Numbers like 'absorbs up to 80% of ambient noise' circulate all over this category with no test behind them, no standard named and no lab cited. A fabric tube does reduce sound transmission under a door, and none of these sellers has measured how much. We list the products; we do not repeat the number.
Slide-under stoppers on an exterior door
A fabric tube against a wet threshold wicks water and stays damp. Use a proper door sweep outside and keep the stoppers for interior doors, where they are genuinely the best answer for a renter.
Any stopper on a door with under half an inch of clearance
It will drag, the door will not latch cleanly, and within a week somebody in the house will pull it off and leave it behind the door. Under half an inch, adhesive weatherstrip on the frame does more good — see foam versus V-seal versus silicone.

Getting more out of a stopper than the box promises
- Vacuum under the door before fitting. Grit under the membrane is what wears a hole in it, usually within a season.
- Trim the width properly. Most stoppers are cut to length by pulling the filling back, cutting the cover and re-seating it. Cutting through the filling leaves a lump that holds the door open.
- Fit weatherstrip at the sides at the same time. A stopper closes the bottom and the sides are usually leaking too. A roll of V-seal costs less than the stopper.
- Wash the cover, not the core. Every fabric cover in this category picks up dust at floor level. Most covers unzip.
If you own the door and can put two screws in it, a screw-on sweep will outlast and outperform any stopper here. This page exists because a lot of people genuinely cannot do that, and the honest answer for them is a well-sized stopper rather than a compromised sweep.
Questions people actually ask
- Does a door draft stopper work on carpet?
- A twin stopper will drag badly on medium or high pile. A single-side filler works better, and on deep carpet the honest answer is that the carpet is already doing most of the sealing — put your money into the sides of the frame instead.
- What is the difference between a door snake and a draft stopper?
- A door snake is a loose fabric tube you lay against the bottom of the door. A draft stopper is fitted — it either slides under the door or attaches to it, so it stays in place when the door opens. Snakes are cheaper and need re-positioning every single time.
- Will a draft stopper stop noise from the hallway?
- It will reduce it, because sound follows the same air path. How much, nobody in this category has measured, and we will not repeat a percentage nobody can source. If noise is the main goal, seal the sides and top of the frame as well — the gap area there is usually larger than the gap under the door.
- Can I use a draft stopper on my front door?
- Indoors on the inside face, yes, as a supplement. As the only seal on an exterior door, no: fabric against a damp threshold stays wet, and wet fabric against wood is how you get a rotten door bottom. Fit a door sweep outside.
- How do I know what size stopper to buy?
- Measure the door width first — 30, 32, 34 and 36 inches are the common US sizes and most stoppers are published against them. Then measure the gap under the door. If the listing publishes a gap range, check yours falls inside it; if it does not publish one, make sure you have at least half an inch of clearance.
