Who writes this

I'm Scooter M. I'm not a contractor and I don't have a lab. I'm someone who got tired of a cold spot by the front door and went down the rabbit hole — reading manufacturer spec sheets, install manuals and gap tolerances until I understood which part actually fixes which problem. That's what Draft & Door is: the specs, compiled and compared, matched to the gap you measured. No lab coat.

What this site is for

It exists to answer one question properly: you have felt a draft somewhere specific — which part fixes it, and will that part fit? Almost everything published about weatherstripping answers a different question. It ranks products as best overall, best budget, best premium, which is a useful frame for a laptop and a useless one for a door sweep. A door sweep that does not reach your floor is not a budget option. It is the wrong part.

So the site is organized by where the draft is, not by product type. You start at the opening that is cold — a door, a window, the garage, or something you cannot see yet — and end up at a part whose published working range covers the gap you measured.

What I actually do

• Read the manufacturer's own published listing for every product, and record the section, the material, the mounting method and — where it exists — the working gap range.
• Say clearly when a manufacturer publishes no gap range at all, which in this category is most of the time.
• Work out what the published dimensions imply, show the reasoning, and label it as reasoning rather than as a manufacturer figure.
• Point at the published source for every claim, so you can check it in one click.
• Name something on every roundup that I would not buy, and say why.

What I do not do

I do not test these products, and this site never says otherwise. There is no test rig, no owned inventory, no ninety days in three houses. I hold no trade license, no certification and no credential of any kind relevant to this category, and you will not find one implied anywhere on this site.

That is a genuine limitation and I would rather state it plainly than dress it up. The counter-offer is a method you can reproduce with a tape measure and a browser tab — the whole thing is written out on how we pick.

Why the honesty framing, specifically

Because in this category the alternative is easy to falsify. It takes about one click to find an article claiming ninety days of hands-on window testing under a byline whose own biography says the writer covers gaming hardware. Once you notice that once, every confident testing claim in the category reads differently.

A published, checkable method survives that scrutiny. A borrowed credential does not.
